Rochelle,

Thank you for your question! Here is a response from our lactation consultants and a pediatrician.

Since Implanon is only birth control, not a progesterone, it can decrease the amount of milk your body makes. These effects vary person to person, but you can try several things to increase your milk.

1. Fenugreek- (if you are allergic to peanuts or chick peas it is not recommended) Take two pills three times a day. You will begin to notice a maple syrup-like odor when you urinate. After that occurs, take one pill three times a day. It can take three to seven days to notice an increase in your milk production.

2. Pump for an extra 5-15 minutes after your baby feeds. You will not see much in the bottles, but this will tell your body to make more.

3. Pump an additional one or two times a day outside of feedings.

4. You should also eat a lot and drink lots of water, it is not a time to diet.

If none of this works, some obstetricians can prescribe medications to increase milk supply.

We hope this advice helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

HI. ,My name is Rochelle. I was wondering if Implanon can dry up your milk supply? I got it a month ago and my baby is almost 3 months. They feel empty all the time and when she eats she crys after a lil bit cuz no milk comes out. Is there a way to increase my milk supply as I really plan to breastfeed for quite awhile.

I'm still feeding this one. The only reason I'm weening this one is because he bit my boob so hard he bruised me. I'm done lol.

Hi, Dora! We currently do not have any events planned other than our Breastfeeding Community Gathering, Thursday, August 2, from 11 a.m. to in the Shannon Women’s & Children’s Center family room (3rd floor), 201 E. Beauregard.

Also, since we presume your three children keep you on the move, you might be interested in our latest post about recommended places to breastfeed while out and about around town.

As always, please let us know if you have any other comments or questions. Thanks!
